The Big Question

We had some great dialog last night for our second movie club meeting. But the question was presented "why do you watch movies?" That was answered with stuff like: because its entertaining; because they are funny; because they give you a break. Which are all valuable reasons. However, we consider our time to be a precious commodity and movies take up a lot of time, so my her comes my big question. Why do those reasons carry so much value today? What in your life is missing that entertainment fills? Ok that's two BIG questions but they are in the same vein at least. Let me know what you think.

Ogre or Princess?

I watched Shrek last week and will watch it again tomorrow at 7pm if anyone is interested in watching with me. Anyway a question has been plaguing me as I have been reflecting on the movie: Is Fiona a human or an ogre? or Is her human form the curse or is her ogre form a curse? Now if you have not finished the movie and cannot stand spoilers STOP reading right now...Ok seriously I am going to "ruin the ending for you"...Look away...hit the little red "X" on your brouser...You have been warned! Fiona turns into an ogre through her kiss with Shrek because it is "true love's first kiss". What a warm and happy ending living out a curse. Or is it? Let me know what you think.

It's Tough being Green

This month is going to be a discussion on the movie Shrek. There appears to be an animated theme beginning here, but please let me assure you that this by accident not an agenda. But animated films offer us a unique experience in that everything you see had to be created by a designer so everything in film was put there on purpose. So keep that in mind when you see that beg green ogre lumbering across your screen. Now let me give you some question to consider when watching this film this month:
1. What is the theme of this moive?
2. What is the plot?
3. Are they different?
4. Why do you think the story uses fairytale characters?
5. Does this make the movie more or less accesiable and understandable?
6. (for you film buffs) what film techniques does the director use well? what techniques fall flat on their faces?
7. Did you enjoy the film?
Seven is a good number to stop at because now you can take a week to anwer the set; answering one question a day. Stay busy, stay true, stay close to God.
